Are Puerto Ricans US Citizens?

Most Americans are not familiar with the fact that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.

Since 1899 any person born in Puerto Rico has been granted status as a U.S. citizen.

This status was granted by Congress because Puerto Rico is a US territory adopted from the Spanish during the Spanish-American war.

Puerto Rico’s distinction as a U.S. territory and not a state allows them to save on certain taxes but also doesn’t allow them the same benefits as the rest of the U.S.

Although Puerto Ricans are technically citizens, they do not have all the same rules and benefits of U.S. Citizens.

For example Puerto Ricans do not have to pay income tax like the rest of the U.S.

Furthermore, Puerto Ricans are not able to vote in general elections and can not receive Supplemental Security Income.

However, Puerto Ricans are able to live and move freely within the United States even and have full citizenship privileges when relocating to other states.

Puerto Rican History

Puerto Rico is a beautiful and unique destination, with a rich history dating back to the pre-Columbian era.

It’s home to the Taíno people, who were originally from the Caribbean island of Taino.

The Taínos were a sophisticated and complex culture, and their influence can be seen in Puerto Rico’s art, cuisine, music, and religion.

Puerto Rico became a Spanish colony in 1493, and until 1898 it was part of the Spanish empire.

During this time, the island was heavily influenced by the culture and society of Spain.

However, following the Spanish-American War, Puerto Rico became an independent country.

Since then, it’s undergone a number of changes and developments – most notably its transition to a modern democracy.

Today, Puerto Rico is an important part of the United States and is a popular tourist destination.
